About the Role

We’re hiring a sharp, strategic, and dependable Performance Marketing Director to lead our Paid Media and SEO departments—owning results across Google Ads, Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Microsoft Ads, LinkedIn, and all organic search initiatives. You will oversee a blended team of paid media managers, SEO specialists, and freelancers, while also working cross-functionally with project managers, designers, and copywriters.

This role combines leadership, strategic thinking, performance accountability, and hands-on support across both paid and organic channels. You’ll shape and refine high-impact marketing strategies, mentor team members, and continuously improve systems, reporting, and campaign performance—measured in leads, rankings, and ROI, not vanity metrics.

You’ll act as the internal performance voice for Halstead’s clients—ensuring all marketing channels work together to generate results that support long-term growth. 

This role is 99% remote with possible training or similar travel, about once a year (some years, not at all).

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Strategy

  • Own and execute integrated performance strategy across Paid Media and SEO

  • Set goals, KPIs, and campaign strategies across platforms and search environments, tailored to client growth stages and service focus

  • Oversee and mentor a team of Paid Media Managers and an SEO Manager (and part-time SEO Director), fostering accountability, communication, and development

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and leadership to forecast capacity, set priorities, and proactively resolve bottlenecks

  • Maintain strong QA processes and reporting for both paid and organic performance

  • Identify and prioritize new opportunities for cross-channel growth—including campaigns, content strategy, local SEO, landing pages, and testing ideas

  • Ensure paid campaigns and SEO strategies support each other and align with client goals, seasonal cycles, and budgets

  • Act as the internal escalation point for performance issues or strategic pivots

Paid Media Oversight

  • Direct strategy, execution, and optimization across Google, Meta, LinkedIn, Microsoft Ads

  • Review and support ad copy, campaign structure, pacing, targeting, and platform fit

  • Set testing agendas and creative frameworks for performance lift

  • Step in to troubleshoot campaign issues and guide budget allocation decisions

  • Lead performance reporting, client insights, and recommendations

SEO Oversight

  • Oversee SEO roadmap across all clients—including keyword strategy, on-page optimization, link-building, and content direction

  • Review and guide SEO work done by team members (SEO Manager, Copywriters, Web Designers)

  • Ensure strong collaboration across SEO and web, content, and UX teams

  • Interpret performance data and rankings to shape recommendations

  • Stay ahead of algorithm updates and changes that impact rankings or lead flow

  • Lead reporting on organic traffic, keyword growth, lead quality, and visibility

  • Ensure technical SEO tasks are managed and resolved

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with copywriters to ensure all messaging (ads and organic) is aligned with StoryBrand principles

  • Work with designers and video editors to develop creative assets for paid and organic campaigns

  • Collaborate with project managers to track performance, align on goals, and respond quickly to client needs

  • Train and coach team members to strengthen cross-functional knowledge and performance thinking

  • Participate in internal marketing planning, tool selection, and team development

You’ll Thrive in This Role If You:

  • Are a performance strategist at heart—always chasing results and clarity

  • Have 4+ years of experience leading paid media campaigns and SEO strategy

  • Have experience managing and mentoring a multi-disciplinary team (paid + SEO + freelancers)

  • Are comfortable blending high-level strategic leadership with occasional hands-on execution

  • Can lead integrated strategy and reporting across both paid and organic search

  • Are highly analytical and can turn data into direction for others

  • Write clear, conversion-optimized ad copy and value messaging precision

  • Are organized, accountable, and effective at building and maintaining systems

  • Can give thoughtful, respectful feedback and guide cross-team collaboration

  • Take ownership of outcomes and know how to align strategy with client goals

Bonus Skills

  • Experience with HubSpot or similar CRMs

  • Comfort navigating Google Analytics, Search Console, SEMrush, and similar tools

  • Familiarity with GA4 reporting, budget forecasting, and attribution modeling

  • Working knowledge of technical SEO (site structure, schema, page speed, etc.)

  • Background in the lawn, landscape, or outdoor living industries

  • Familiarity with the StoryBrand messaging framework

  • Ability to build client-facing performance narratives and recommendations
